The Lone Wolf Leather Tall Wallet is a collaboration using the finest leathers from Japan and Sweden. World renown Chromexcel leather from Horween in Chicago, USA is used for the outer leather and Swedens Tärnsjö natural veg tanned leather for all inside pockets and credit card slots.
Horween Chromexcel
Horween is a world renown tannery located on the Chicago River in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, also known as Tannery Row. The formula or recipe for Horweens Chromexcel has been around since the late 1800's or early 1900's. The finished tanned leather undergoes 89 separate processes and takes almost a month to complete. To make a long story short the hides, cow or horse, are first dehaired and then undergo chrome tanning using chrome salts. Chrome tanning gives the hides the characteristic "wet blue" appearance. The hides are then veg tanned using extracts of bark and finally hot stuffed with waxes and oils. When pressing your finger on the flesh side of the leather the oils and waxes are dispersed momentarily and the top or grain side becomes lighter in color. This is what is referred to as "pull up". The mix of chrome and veg tanning gives soft and durable leathers that patina well after use.
Vegetable Tanned
The vegetable tanned leather is sourced from Tärnsjö Tannery north of Stockholm. Tärnsjö Ång Garveri (Tärnsjö Steam Tannery) was established in 1873 by Fredrik Åström and the tannery has since then primarily utilized vegetable tanning. Today, with sustainability and the safety of our environment at the forefront the tanning at Tärnsjö is exclusively vegetable tanning. Vegetable tanning is a time consuming process and each type of leather has its own formula or mixture of different extracts from a range of different trees. Throughout the years Tärnsjö has supplied Scandinavian interior designers and luxury brands such as Louis Vitton and Hermes with the finest veg tanned leather.
